Toy Museum Heritage Garden @ Teluk Bahang

Recently, we discovered that there are 2 Toy Museums in Penang Island, they are:

1. Toy Museum Heritage Garden (Teluk Bahang)
2. Ben's Penang Vintage Toy Museum (Lebuh Acheh)

Toy Museum Heritage Garden

Previously known as Toy Museum and located at Tanjung Bungah; now renamed as Toy Museum Heritage Garden and moves into a new home in Teluk Bahang along with over 70,000 toys, dolls and collectibles. Its new space is divided into many sections including the chamber of horror which includes a collection of demon baby Chucky toys. Among the many toys that are familiar, you will find comic book characters, dinosaurs, monsters, Barbie dolls and action figures. Take a stroll through their newly-added Heritage Garden on its new premises for a peek at various fruit trees and tropical greens.

During school holiday, we suggest that parents can bring your kid to this place, I am sure they will love it. Although they might familiar with certain characters, but they will definitely feel very happy to see all the collections that the owner collected since 40 years ago.

Penang International Dragon Boat Festival 2012

"33rd Plenitude Penang International Dragon Boat Festival "

Recently we just celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival, on this festival we normally will link it with "dumpling" and "dragon boat" to our kids. After introducing what is dumpling to our kid, why not bring them to see what is dragon boat look like.

This year there are 14 international teams from South Africa, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Australia, Thailand, Philippines and New Zealand, as well as 13 Malaysian teams.

Everyone is welcome to witness the race at the beautiful Teluk Bahang Dam. Rapid Penang busses travelling to Batu Feringgi will extend their route up to the dam from 8.00am to 6.00pm during these two days.

Visitors will be able to purchase meals at the site using food-coupons which will be sold by the organiser during the event. Those who purchase a minimum of RM10 worth of coupons will be entitled to enter in the lucky draw and stand a chance to win a Grand Prize of a cruise to Phuket worth RM 4500, hotel stays, 50 Swork sunglasses worth RM799 and more!

In conjunction with the festival, a photography competition will also be held for shutterbugs. Those with the best photos of the race will be awarded with RM800 for first prize, RM500 for second prize and RM300 for third prize. The photo submission date will be by 15 July 2012.

Cinematic Greats and Jazz Works (FREE Concert)

Wawasan Open University will host the free open-air concert by Penang Philharmonic under the musical direction of maestro Woon Wen Kin.

The concert themed ‘Cinematic Greats and Jazz Works’ will feature classics of the old cinematic movies, including Shanghai Beach, The Sound of Music , The Prince of Egypt and the all-time favourite, The Phantom of the Opera.

Some 100 musicians from the Penang Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) and Penang Philharmonic Jazz Monet will be performing, alongside two singers, soprano Serene Yoong and popular local artiste Siti Andy, who will render the evergreen hit Getaran Jiwa and I Dreamed A Dream.

This open-air concert is open to the public. Admission to this event is absolutely free of charge. Therefore, it is made possible through the generous contributions of many parties. First of all, all musicians have been rehearsing tirelessly contributing time and effort for weeks for the love of music to perform on the evening without a single cent. Indeed, all musicians of the Penang Philharmonic are volunteers who play music merely for the love of it. Consistent with the mission of the Penang Philharmonic, all musicians only have one goal and that is to present wonderful music for Penang.

Some 1,500 chairs will be placed on the grounds for seating purposes; others can enjoy the concert seated on the ground or standing. However, due to the set up above, parking is not allowed in the campus ground on Saturday.
